Preseason Interview -- Pinecrest Men’s Lacrosse

The Patriots Men’s Lacrosse team takes the field tonight for their first game of the season. They will take on Apex at 7 p.m. Last season the Patriots finished undefeated in the conference at 10-0. With a 11-9 overall record, they made it to the NCHSAA State Playoffs before they knocked out in the 3rd round.

Five Patriots received honors as 1st Team All Conference, two as 2nd team, two as 1st Team All Region, and two as All State. 54 athletes showed up for tryouts the largest number ever for the program.

Coach Brad Thomson and his team will look to three seniors who each have at least ten years. I will need them to be there to support and mentor the large number of underclassmen on the team,” said Thomson. “We will also look at junior goalie Wesley Little to be the leader on the defensive end of the field.”

“The boys are excited. We are really focusing on the Team Concept, with all boys reading The Hard Hat. They are a mixed bag of class and experience. They will have to rely heavily on each other in order to be successful,” said Thomson. “We have a large amount of talent on this team. I’m excited to see how this new blend of teammates gels together on the field.”

Another Conference Championship is the hope for the Patriots, along with a historical season. “I’m expecting the boys to have a great season. Finish up as conference champs, make it to at least the 4th round of playoffs (we never have gotten past 3rd round). Fight hard and show grit in tough games,” said Thomson.
