Nascar returns Easter Weekend at the Rock
Rockingham Speedway and Nascar announced Thursday that it would return to the historical track on Easter weekend of next year. Rockingham will host the Nascar Xfinity and Truck Series on April 18th and the 19th 2025.
The Rock opened in 1965, holding its first race on Halloween that year. The track would go on to hold some of Nascar’s most memorable races and had legends of the sport take victory laps until it closed in 2004. Over the course of 41 years that Nascar has run at the Rock, the King of Nascar Richard Petty holds the record of the most wins with 11.
Matt Kenseth was the last Nascar cup winner in February 2004, beating out Rockie Kasey Kahne by 0.010. Kahne ended up winning the Truck Series in 2012 when they returned for two years. The last person to sit in victory lane for Nascar was Kyle Larson in 2013.
Rockingham Properties LLC purchased the track in 2018 for $2.8 million. Since the purchase, the owners have repaved the track, replaced the grandstands, added lighting, and renovated infield facilities.
The Rock has hosted several racing circuits over the past few years and has held concerts and other events.
Race fans from all over the country have voiced their opinion over the years for the return. Since the reopen of North Wilkesboro, local fans have been voicing their hopes for a return.
Races at The Rock have always brought in money to Moore County and Rockingham as the track sits around 10 miles from the Moore County line. When it was a race weekend at the Rock, you could be sure to find stars eating in Southern Pines or catch a driver bowling with his team in Aberdeen.
Tickets will go on sale on November 1st at 10 a.m. For details and updates, visit RacetheRock.com.
