Aberg sits alone at the top after round two
The second round of the U.S. Open had an eventful day. Two holes in ones, big names missing the cut, and there is a sole leader sitting at the top of the field.
Ludvig Aberg is sitting alone at the top who shot a 66 and 69 in the first two rounds to give a score of -5. “I felt like I hit it very nicely today. It was obviously very challenging, and it’s not an easy golf course to play. But I felt like we stayed very disciplined, stayed very patient, and tried to hit it to our targets all the time and see how many golf. We said beforehand to see how many good shots we can hit today and see where that ends up at the end,” said Aberg.
Aberg is familiar with Pinehurst. he played here in a U.S. Amateur tournament a few years ago and remembers it being the hardest course he has ever played. “Prior to this week, it was Pinehurst because I played the U.S. Amateur here a couple of years ago. I think just with the way those greens are, when it gets really firm, and just because you don’t really have any bail-out areas, you’ve just got to take on the golf shots and see where it ends up, and if you don’t pull it off, you’re going to have a really tricky short game shot. I think it’s a challenging golf course, but once again, that’s the way it was supposed to be.
Tied in second with a score of -4 are: Bryson DeChambeau, Thomas Detry, and Patrick Cantlay. Tied in fifth with a score of -3 are: Rory Mcllroy, Tony Finau, and Matthieu Pavon.
Big names like Phil Nickleson and Tiger Woods didn’t make the cut. Woods finished T88 shooting +7.
