The Brothas and Sistas softball teams completed their historical season in winning fashion.

The Brothas and Sistas Coed Softball season opened their season as the longest playing coed team in the county. Their 21st season didn’t disappoint.

“We opened up our 21st season by playing each other. Team 2 beat team 1 and our season was on,” said Coach and Founder Mike Brown.

“Team 1 had a very trying year, they hardly ever had the same starting lineup because of injuries or job related absences,” said Brown.

Team 1 of would have to fight their way to the championship game of Moore Coutny Parks and recreation coed tournament. Only one run separated the team from victory in four of the games they lost, resulting in a 3-7 record for the regular season. Given the 2nd seed in the lower division tournament meant they needed to win their first two games to qualify for the Championship, and they did just that.

They were set to face the Alcohoballics, and Brothas and Sistas needed back-to-back wins to get their title. Alcohoballics took game one 21-19, this meant do or die for the Brothas and Sistas team.

“We were the visiting team. We were behind most of the game by a run or two, and in the top of the 7th, we scored eight runs to put us up by six runs. We only allowed three. They had 1 runner on 1st and two outs and the batter hit a line shot to our 1st baseman, Bridget Ingram,” said Brown.

Ingram stopped the ball and tagged the runner out, giving Brothas and Sistas the win 17-14. This was their third consecutive lower division championship for Moore County Parks and Recreation.

Team 1 players: Bridget Ingram, Cathy Brown, Marcus Hanshew, Michael Brown, Mike Shore, Heather Prevatte, Bradley Blanchard, Kenleigh Frye, Abby Martin, Rayme Mudd, Julia Mudd, Keith Cagle, James Cheek.

“Team 2 had an awesome year, and they finished with a 9-1 regular season record. They won their first two tournament games and advanced to the Championship game,” said Brown.

This meant they also had to be beaten twice. Team 2 were set to play Jugtown Pottery. “They have a few former college baseball players and very experienced women fas pitch players,” said Brown. “The game was back and forth, with each team exchanging the lead.”

In the top of the 7th, Jugtown took a seven run lead, but Brothas and Sistas battled back. “Brandon Ingram started us off with a huge double down the 3rd base line that went to the fence. Then we put on base runner after base runner,” said Brown.

Brothas and Sistas were still down with 2 outs with tying run, Lari Creech, on 3rd. Tom McKay, a local chiropractor, cracked the bat for a base hit and drove in the tying run. McKays oldest son was now on third as the winning run. LeAnna Grace Caddell came to the plate. Caddell drove in her boyfriend Trent McKay with a hard-hit ball over second base to win the game. Team 2 won the game 19-18.

Team 2 players: Laura Yates, LeAnna Grace Caddell, Tom McKay, David Hall, Kyle Norris, Kodey Talbott, Trent McKay, Chris Ingram, Lari Creech, Joy Rimbert, Alexis Creech, Dani Petrella, Brandon Ingram, Jonathan Blanchard, Tristan Brown, Judah Pies.

“This was the 1st upper division championship since 2017. This is the 1st time that the Brotha’s & Sista’s Softball teams have swept both divisions. We proved that the Black & Gold are still the most successful organization in Moore County Softball,” said Brown. “I’m a very proud Coach and I’m thankful for 30 players that put their trust and confidence in me.”
