Vikings head to Elite 8 after triple overtime road win
The Lady Vikings are heading to the Elite 8 on Friday night after a triple overtime win in Rocky Mount.
The ladies ended the first quarter with a 13-8 lead; they expanded the lead to 30-22 going into the half. The third quarter was all Rocky Mount. Third ranked Gryphons did not hand the game to the Vikings. They held the lady Vikings to only three points in the third quarter, taking a 41-33 lead.
Back and forth, the Vikings battled, keeping the game alive. The end of regulation ended in a tie. The first overtime was the same back and forth. Double overtime the Vikings seemed to have it, but the Gryphons got a steal in the last second and made the shot to take it to the triple overtime.
Rocky Mount led by as much as four, but the Vikings kept fighting and scored in the last seconds to get the win.
The 6th seed Vikings will travel to 2nd seed Western Alamance on Friday for an Elite 8 match up. The Warriors have a 25-4 record, while the Vikings are now 28-1.
The Vikings were led by guard Ashanti Fox (SR) with 44 points, and guard Taryn Pekala (SR) with 18 points.
