Robbins Area Library Celebrates 30 Years

The Robbins Area Library held its 30th anniversary celebration on Wednesday afternoon. The Robbins Library opened their doors on March 3, 1994 as part of the Sandhills Regional Library System.

In attendance of the celebration was County Commissioner John Ritter, Robbins town Manager Clint Mack, The Library Board, among others.

The Library just under went some renovations, the town helped fund the renovating the bathrooms, and some exterior repairs. “They help us a lot. We’re very thankful to work with the commissioners and the town manager Clint,” said Board Chair Theron Bell.

It took a lot of money to get the library built 30 years ago. “The town helped us, the county of Moore helped us, people from the other end of the county were kind and sent money,” said Bell. People from this end of the county saw that it was needed and contributed. The schools in the area collected jars of money up to $500 in there that they gave us, and we had fundraisers.”

The Sandhills Regional Library System makes up of five counties in North Carolina. Moore County has five libraries and a bookmobile in the system. “It’s not only a library, but almost a cultural center for this area,” said Bell.

The Robbins Area Library has a children’s corner, computer center, movie rentals and they offer different programs throughout the year. The entire northern end of the county uses the library, including readers from Seven lakes, Eagle Springs and Carthage.

“This couldn’t be done without the help of all the wonderful ladies here. One person couldn’t do this on their own,” said Bell. “We have had several librarians and we love them all, but the children definitely love Miss Sue.”

The library board served refreshments and passed out a gift bag to those who came.
