Grunts Men’s Basketball is ready for Friday’s season opener

Father Capodanno Men’s Basketball is preparing to enter their first season in a conference. The small school has been taking strides to grow their athletic programs over the past few years. Sometimes in smaller schools its difficult to get a large turnout for sports. This hasn’t really been the case for the Grunts. The school has some of the best school spirit and pretty much everyone is involved.

“Being a small school, it can sometimes be challenging to get enough players to field a team. That is not the case this year. We have 15 players who are excited about the season,” said Principal and Head Coach Joe Skillman.

“We have shown great individual improvement from the end of last season to the beginning of this season. Many new faces to the team this year, but we are returning many strong contributors from last season,” said Skillman. “The boys are excited to play and working hard. Several of our young men put in great work this summer to improve their individual game.”

Luke Moon, Braedan Hudson, Sam Attar are among those who are returning. The Grunts will look to the trio to step up as leaders of the team.

Something new for the Grunts in all sports is they have entered into a conference this season. The Grunts Volleyball dominated their first season in the conference. Basketball looks to follow the lady’s lead. “I expect us to be competitive and to improve on last season. We started a new league with other small schools this season, which we haven’t competed against before in basketball. I think we can be competitive,” said Skillman.

Like football, the Grunts home court will be in Southern Pines at Moore Montessori School.
