Colby Pennington, a four-year varsity football starter, received a nomination for his commitment, leadership, and skills.
Pennington holds Mustang records for most consecutive starts (52) and football wins (42). He has 1500 career all-purpose yards, 24 career touchdowns, 120 total tackles, 28 tackles for loss (22 this season). He was also a part of offenses that finished in the top five in rushing yards in the NCHSAA 1A for four consecutive years.
According to Max Preps, his 2024 ranking was 38th in the 1A East and 8th in the 1A/2A Mid-Carolina. He has made All-Conference his four years and voted team captain this season.
Pennington played tight end on offense and on defensive line. He occasionally took snaps at quarterback and played running back. “It was fun playing other positions, I’m glad I’m glad Coach Carrouth put it in the offense where I had a formation and I could go to and help the team out,” said Pennington.
“I started playing flag football at five and tackle at six,” said Pennington. “I love the family of the Brotherhood, and all being together.”
His favorite game was his sophomore year when the Mustangs made history advancing to the fourth round of the playoffs after defeating Pender by a field goal. Last season Pennington and the Mustangs defeated Bertie in the second round of the playoffs. “I had four touchdowns and a fumble recovery. That was probably my best game,” said Pennington.
Pennington also plays basketball and golf for the mustangs. “I would like to see us make the playoffs and get a first-round home game and win a playoff game this season,” said Pennington. “In golf we want to win another Regional Championship and make state playoffs.”
After years of hard work, a dream coming true for Pennington. He has been offered to play for six schools. “I’ve always dreamed of playing at the college level, especially football,” said Pennington.
He has not announced his decision on which school he will attend yet. Fayetteville State, University of Richmond, East Carolina, Navy, Catawba, and North Greenville all have offered. Depending on which school he attends will help decide what he will study. “At some schools I can do some environmental sciences or something to do outdoors or I may do business or communication,” said Pennington.
“My mom and dad helped me a lot, especially my dad,” said Pennington. “He was a big influence. He coached me in football since I was young all the way till I got to middle school. Coach Carrouth has helped me a ton with the decisions on colleges.”
“Colby is an outstanding young man and is a three-sport athlete has done some amazing things at North Moore,” said Carrouth.
