Mustangs open season with wins
The Mustangs opened the season on the road on Tuesday, against Ascend Leadership Academy, and both teams get wins.
“We had a typical opening game full of miscues and less than stellar shooting,” said Ginn. The Mustangs won 60-36. Leading scorers were: Michael Copeland with 16, Colby Pennington 15, and Austin Patterson with 10.
“We will need to improve on both sides of the ball as the competition will get stronger very soon,” said Ginn. The Mustangs will have their home opener Friday night, hosting Ascend Leadership at 7:30 p.m.
The Lady Mustangs traveled to Ascend Leadership in Sanford. “We overcame a scrappy and physical Ascend Leadership Academy team on Tuesday,” said coach Wyatt.
47 - 39.
“The first half was nip and tuck with North Moore getting into foul trouble early and Ascend taking a 4 point lead into halftime,” said Wyatt. “Coach Simmons & myself challenged the lady Mustang team to shake off the nervousness, and just play the game the way they practiced.”
In the second half, the Mustangs played more disciplined defense, contesting shots and forcing turnovers. The Mustangs put the game away with a 47-39 win with scoring by Clendenin with 14 points, Young 13 points, Marley 10 points and Hunt with 10 points.
Ascend Leadership Academy will come to North Moore for the Mustangs home opener on Friday at 6 p.m.
