Mustang Basketball starts strong

The Mustangs Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams are off to a 2-0 start after both teams defeated Ascend Academy for the second time on Friday.

The men forced a lot of turnovers and capitalized on those turnovers. Junior Colby Pennington led the Mustangs, scoring 22 points on Friday night and was two rebounds away from back to back double doubles. He also recorded six steals. Pennington wasn’t the only Mustang firing on a cylinders, Davon Wall scored 13 points.

The Mustangs 78-26 win against Ascend was the second time they defeated them last week. The Mustangs traveled to Sanford and defeated Ascend on Tuesday 60-36.

North Moore will play three games this week. Their first conference game will be at home on Tuesday against Northwood. The Mustangs will be on the road on Thursday and Friday playing Gray Stone Day School and South Stanly.

The Ladies are also 2-0. They defeated Ascend 40-14 on Friday. The Mustangs controlled the tempo of the game from start to finish. They were able to take control by forcing turnovers and taking advantage of missed shots. They too also defeated Ascend on Tuesday in Sanford 47-39..

They will open conference play on Tuesday at home against 1-1 Northwood. They will also be on the road Thursday and Friday at Gray Stone and South Stanly.
