Mustangs Baseball and Softball Win on Tuesday
Mustang Baseball and Softball teams win on Tuesday
The Mustangs baseball team hit the road to South Davidson Tuesday night, looking to bounce back from a heartbreaking walk off on Monday night.
On Monday, the Mustangs lost to Northwood on the road 5-4. In the bottom of the eighth inning, a Mustang error allowed Northwood to score the winning run. “We walked to many batters and made too many mistakes defensively. We also got picked off twice on te base pats, and when all that accumulates we probably aren’t going to win,” said coach Kennedy. “We still had chances in the game to come away with a victory, but we came up short.”
On Tuesday, the Mustangs seemed to have gotten their frustrations out. They certainly didn’t let Monday’s loss dictate how they would play the rest of the week.
Will Kennedy led the way, swinging the bats going 4 for 5 with 4 RBIs and crossing the plate four times. Elliot Furr went 3 for 4. He had a sacrifice out, giving him 5 RBIs and he crossed the plate three times. The entire team got a chance at the plate and all but two recorded hits and only one Mustang didn’t record a run. The team dominated as one.
South Davidson had two guys on the mound. Between the two, they walked two Mustangs, recorded seven strikeouts and gave up 14 hits.
The Mustangs got an opportunity to see four different pitchers. Those stats are as follows:
IP H R ER SO BB
Will Kennedy 2.2 4 4 1 3 1
Austin Patterson 0.1 0 1 0 1 1
Dalton Massey 1.0 0 0 0 2 0
Aidan Corfios 1.0 0 0 0 3 2
“This game gave us a chance to try some new things defensively and get some guys some much needed time on the mound,” said Kennedy. “It was good to get the win and move on from Monday night’s loss. We feel each game is part of a process to get us where we want to be post season. It was a big night at the plate from Kennedy and Furr.”
Box Score:

S. Davidson 4 0 1 0 0 x x 5 4 6
The Mustangs would come away with a non-conference road win 18-5. They will be home Friday against South Davidson at 7 p.m.
The Lady Mustangs played at home against conference foe’s Southeast Alamance. The Mustangs took a two run lead in the first, but the Stallions jumped ahead in the top of the third with a 3-2 lead. The Mustangs worked hard in the bottom of the sixth, scoring two runs. Logan Maness grounded out, but drove in what would be the game-winning run. The ladies won their second game of the season 4-3.
Lyla Nelson, Sydney Russell, and Tate Allred all went 2 for 3. Ansley Preslar, Sydney Russell, Logan Maness, and Tate Allred all recorded one RBI each. Nelson also had two stolen bases.
Sydney Russell pitched a complete game of seven innings. She walked two batters, gave up seven hits and three runs, but she ended the night with ten strikeouts.
The Mustangs are now 2-0 overall and 2-0 in conference play. They will travel to Troy tonight to take on Montgomery Central and will be back home on Friday for another conference match against Jordan-Mathews. Both games start at 7 p.m.
