North Moore soccer win second straight
The North Moore Men’s Soccer team won against Asheboro High School 1-0 in a well-fought match Monday night. It was a very intense game for both teams, with many great plays on both sides. North Moore created many opportunities in the first half, but could not finish. North Moore's defense and senior goalkeeper, Alex Rebollar, stopped Asheboro's dangerous opportunities.
The Mustangs didn’t see a goal until the second half after coaches made some strategic changes to combat Asheboro’s attack. The Mustangs created a play, starting with a ball won in the air from senior Christopher Veláquez sent to senior Ricky Betancourt; who won the ball in the air with a header and put it inside the box. With this play, Betancourt gave an assist to his brother, sophomore Christopher Betancourt, where Betancourt craftily defeated the goalie with a powerful left kick for goal. Overall, the North Moore Mustangs played with heart, determination, and patience to finish with a well-earned victory as a team.
The Mustangs will see action next this Monday against Northwood for their first conference game of the season.
