Preseason Interview -- North Moore Golf

In the northern end of a county with a history of Golf, you will find open fields, but there won’t be any putting greens. About 20 miles south of Robbins, you will find around 40 golf courses. North Moore has grown their athletic program in baseball, football, tennis, and now golf. Last season the Mustangs placed second in their conference, won the Mid-east regionals and finished 7th in the 1A State Tournament. The Mustangs look to continue to put their names in the golf community.

This year’s team has eight players. “The boys have been putting time in the golf room we have at the school getting ready for the season to start and tryouts have been great,” said coach Richard Smith.

The Mustangs have set their goals and are ready to tee off later today. “We have set some pretty high goals this year. The big one is going back to back mid-east regional champs. The boys have that on their mind. It’s not going to be easy,” said Smith. The guys will rely on their closeness this season to keep up the moral. “One is strength is the boys are very close. They are always pulling for each other to perform at practice and matches,” said Smith.

Brady Preslar and Colby Pennington will lead the Mustangs this season. Preslar a junior finished runner-up at 1A Mid-East Regionals last season. “I’m looking for him to perform well this year,” said Smith. Pennington, who is known for his strength on the football field and his inside play on the basketball court, has entered his second golf season. Last year he placed 5th place in the 1A Mid-East regionals last season. “He showed great promise. He is just an overall great athlete and picks things up very quick,” said Smith.

The Mustangs tee off this afternoon against Grace Christian at Quail Ridge in Sanford. Here is their season schedule:
