FALCONS OVERCOME A WEEK OF WINTER WEATHER

Varsity Girls Basketball:  
O’Neal vs Fayetteville Christian School FINAL 33-26, W 
On Friday, January 17, 2025, the Lady Falcons traveled to Fayetteville to take on Fayetteville Christian in a highly anticipated conference matchup. Despite trailing at halftime, the Lady Falcons demonstrated remarkable resilience and determination in the second half, taking control of the game and earning an impressive 33-26 victory. 

 
Leading the charge were Jamaya Hooker with 11 points and Kennedi Hamner, who contributed 10 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. This hard-fought win improves the Lady Falcons’ record to 9-5 overall and 7-2 in conference play. 

 
After a well-deserved weekend break, the team returned to practice on Monday, preparing for their next challenge—a home game against Trinity Christian on Friday, January 24, 2025, at 5:00 p.m.  


Varsity Boys Basketball:  
O’Neal vs Fayetteville Christian School FINAL 22-78, L 
The Falcons hit the road Friday night to face the Fayetteville Christian Warriors. They started strong, playing solid fundamental basketball and holding the Warriors to just 8 points in the first quarter. While the Falcons struggled to get their shots to fall early, they eventually found their rhythm offensively. 

 
Defensively, the Falcons put in a determined effort throughout the first half, working hard to slow the Warriors’ scoring. Despite their best efforts, the Falcons faced challenges catching up in the second half but maintained their teamwork and resilience through all four quarters. 
Freshman Jacob Lindsey led the Falcons with 10 points, while Ford Kuester contributed 6 points, Mike Lewis added 4 points, and Christian Baker scored 2 points. The team’s spirit and effort were evident, and they continued to make their supporters proud. 

 
The Falcons will return home this Friday for Senior Night, facing Trinity Christian with a 6:30 PM tip-off. 


All-School Cheer:  

After the long weekend, the all-school cheer team brought their energy to the middle school boys basketball game against Moore Montessori, adding spirit and excitement to the event. 

The cheerleaders will take the floor again tonight at the varsity basketball games, starting at 5 PM in Hannah Gym. They will be joined by participants from the recent Cheer Clinic, showcasing what they’ve learned. 

 

The team's final home appearance of the season will be next Thursday, as they cheer for the middle school basketball teams against Berean Baptist Academy in the Tate Gym. Games begin at 4 PM. 

Varsity Swimming 
Women: O'Neal: 41 vs Cary Christian: 52 & O'Neal: 22 vs Cary Academy: 71 
Men: O'Neal: 18 vs. Cary Christian: 75 & O'Neal: 13 vs Cary Academy: 80 
The O'Neal Varsity Swim Team traveled to SAS for a meet against Cary Academy and Cary Christian. Despite facing tough competition, the team delivered several impressive performances.  

 
The women’s relays achieved season-best times, highlighted by standout swims from Ava Taylor Walker in the 100 freestyle and Lucy Edmunds in the 100 backstroke, both earning State qualifying times. 

 
On the men’s side, Carson Pusser showed improvement with a time drop in the 200 IM, while Sam Schmitz delivered a season-best performance in the 500 freestyle. The team now shifts focus to preparing for the NCISAA State Meet at the Greensboro Aquatics Center on February 11th.
