Homecoming Highlights

Varsity Boys Basketball:  
O’Neal vs. Freedom Christian FINAL: 24-92, L 
The Falcons returned to action on Friday night after a long Christmas break, facing a tough opponent in Freedom Christian Academy. The team started slowly, allowing Freedom to establish an early lead with high-intensity play and accurate shooting. Despite their best efforts to fight back in the first half, the Falcons found themselves trailing at halftime. 

In the second half, the Falcons made adjustments and played with determination, but their efforts ultimately fell short. Freshman Mike Lewis led the team in scoring with 8 points, supported by Grant Sowell (6 points), Jacob Lindsey (4 points), Max Pashley (3 points), and Ford Kuester (3 points). 

 
O’Neal vs. Berean Baptist FINAL: 17-71, L 
On Tuesday, the Falcons hosted Berean Baptist Academy for a conference game. The team came out with energy and intensity, ready to compete against a strong opponent. Early in the first half, the Falcons displayed great signs of team chemistry and solid defense, but they struggled to convert their opportunities into points. 

 
Berean capitalized on these struggles, building an early lead. In the second half, the Falcons found some offensive rhythm, hitting shots and running an improved offense. Despite the late-game effort, the Falcons were unable to overcome the deficit but maintained their focus and positivity throughout the contest. 

 
Freshman Jacob Lindsey led the Falcons with 8 points, followed by Grant Sowell with 5 points. Senior Max Pashley and Joseph Lucas each added 2 points. 

 
O’Neal vs. Village Christian FINAL: 43-36, W 
The Falcons capped off Homecoming Week with a thrilling victory over Village Christian Academy on Thursday. From the opening tip, the team played with strength and determination, showcasing excellent communication and their best chemistry of the season. 

Strong offensive and defensive play in the first half set the tone, giving the Falcons the momentum they needed heading into the second half. After the break, the team kept their foot on the gas, dominating in the paint and securing the win in front of an enthusiastic Homecoming crowd. 

 
Freshman Jacob Lindsey led the Falcons with an outstanding 19 points, while senior Max Pashley added 11 points. Grant Sowell contributed 6 points, with Jack Manning (3 points), Ford Kuester (2 points), and Christian Baker (2 points) rounding out the scoring. 

The Falcons will return to action at home next Tuesday against Northwood Temple Academy at 6:30 PM.  

Varsity Girls Basketball:  

O’Neal vs Freedom Christian FINAL: 50-55, L 
The Lady Falcons returned to the court on Friday, January 3, 2025, for their first game after the holiday break, hosting Freedom Christian Academy. In a hard-fought battle, the Lady Falcons came up just short, falling 50-55. Despite the loss, the team looked sharp, showing no signs of rust after the long break. Judah Sibley led the charge with an impressive 17 points and 8 rebounds, supported by Kennedi Hamner with 13 points and 12 rebounds, and Gigi Gabrielle contributed 10 points. 

 
O’Neal vs Berean Baptist FINAL: 58-11, W 

The Falcons bounced back in dominant fashion on Tuesday, January 7, with a commanding 58-11 victory over Berean Baptist Academy. The Lady Falcons controlled every aspect of the game, with standout performances from Judah Sibley (15 points and 5 steals) and Sofie Itegie (12 points and 5 steals). Jamaya Hooker and Gigi Gabrielle also had strong showings, both finishing in double digits with 10 points each. 

 

O’Neal vs Village Christian FINAL: 68-14, W 

The week concluded with the much-anticipated Homecoming game on Thursday, January 9, against Village Christian Academy. The Lady Falcons delighted the home crowd with another dominant performance, securing a 68-14 victory. Judah Sibley shined once again with 24 points, while Joelle Cole added 20 points in the Homecoming triumph. 

This strong start to the new year pushes the Lady Falcons' record to 7-5 overall and 5-2 in conference play. What a way to come back from the break! 

Up next, the Lady Falcons will host Northwood Temple Academy on Tuesday, January 14, at 5:00 PM. Come out and support the team! 

All-School Cheer 
After a wonderful holiday break, the All-School Cheer team kicked off the new year with an exciting and eventful week. The team practiced diligently to prepare for the Homecoming Girls and Boys Varsity Basketball games. 

 
Their energy and enthusiasm were on full display as they led a spirited challenge during the school Pep Rally, bringing excitement to the entire event. The cheerleaders did an outstanding job fostering school spirit and adding to the thrilling atmosphere of both Varsity games. 

The cheer team will next be in action on Monday in the Tate Gym, where they will support the Middle School Girls and Boys Basketball teams in games against Northwood Temple starting at 4 PM. 

Varsity Swimming 
Varsity swimming put in a good week of strong workouts! The team will have its last home meet next Thursday, January 16th. This is also the Falcons’ Senior Recognition! The team is looking forward to some fast swims and recognizing the class of 2025!
