Patriot bowling is ready for new season
Bowling is gaining popularity in Moore County and in the NCHSAA. The Pinecrest Patriots ladies’ team are defending State Champions and while they are hoping to defend that title, the Patriot guy’s team hopes to be the next State Champions.
“Our girls are very motivated to defend their title as state champions this year and our boys want to be the next team to bring home the state championship for us,” said coach Patterson.
The sport is still new to Pinecrest and Moore County Schools and still growing. “We had a great turnout for our boys’ team. We had enough girls come out to make the team, but we will definitely need to spread the word about how fun this sport is for next year,” said Patterson. “We have some great seniors this year that are strong bowlers and are helping to build this program with our underclassmen. You can tell it is important to the seniors for this program to stay strong even after they graduate.”
Coach Patterson took over the team this year after former coach Watson retired. One of coach Patterson’s goals is to keep building the program and growing interest. Coach Patterson will look to James Suhadolink to assist in leading the boys’ team. “He is a new addition to our boys’ team. He is one of our strongest bowlers and is bringing a lot of experience with him to our team,” said Patterson. “Allie Taylor does an amazing job of motivating and leading the girls’ team. She knows the importance of having a strong team and it shows in each practice.” The Lady Patriots will look to Allie for leadership and motivation.
Championships are always a goal of a team, especially when defending a state title, but there are more expectations than that for Coach Patterson and her team. “We want to build a strong team that helps each other bowl their best. That means each student needs to be comfortable giving and receiving technical advice and tips. I love seeing my athletes smile after they walk away from a strike or when they see the success of working on a specific technique,” said Patterson.
