Preseason Interview - Pinecrest Softball
Preseason Interview — Pinecrest Softball
The Patriots hit the field on Tuesday night for the first game of the season at Purnell Swett. The ladies did not have the start they had hoped for. The Patriots finished last season with an 8-13 overall record, and fifth in the conference. “We dropped a couple of games that we should have won. But overall the girls did good,” said Krout.
Coach Krout hopes to take the motivation from off season workouts into the season. She explained the girls have improved over the course of the offseason and were looking forward to coming out. They also made some changes to help the ladies with strength and speed. “The one thing we added that we have not done in the past is we added morning lifting sessions with our strength and conditioning coach. The girls have gotten stronger and faster, which has definitely helped their game on the field. We also had a couple of inter-squad games so the girls could have that game like experience before we got heavy into our season,” said Krout.
The ladies have something to prove and are ready to show their conference foes that they are ready to compete. “We are honestly expecting to make waves in our conference this year. That has been our slogan for preseason because Pinecrest softball has been written off by other teams in our conference so when we started workouts as a team and as a family we made the decision that we were going to make waves in our conference this year and shock everyone,” said Krout.
One thing that has changed is the morale coming into the season. The ladies are completely dialed in to what needs to be done to make waves in the conference. “This is the most excited I have seen this team starting a season since I started working at Pinecrest in 2018. The seniors have stepped up to help the younger ladies. The girls have bought into our program completely, they want to shake our conference and they want to say at the end of the season that they gave everything they had,” said Krout. Buying into the program is one of the strengths this team has. They understand the program and they have made it a family.
“These young ladies know that us coaches have their backs and us coaches know that they have our back. The biggest thing we love to see is they are so quick to pick each other up when making a mistake, at the same time they also push each other to get better,” said Krout. “I am looking to my seniors to lead the team this year. Maggie Drake, Nakia Collins, Raven Ross-Giliespe, and Anjali Williams. These young ladies bought into this program and have given everything they possibly could to this team.”
The Ladies will be home for their second game on Thursday against Apex Friendship.
