Bogeys interns run the show

Bogey Interns run the show - July 2023

The Bogeys internship program runs the show. The High school interns from Union Pines, Pinecrest, Neil, and schools in Canada run almost every operation on game days.

The Bogey Interns run the concessions, ticket and merch booths, announcer and scorekeepers, and between inning games. “They are so dependable, they are the grease that keeps everything moving,” said Community Director Julie Borshak.

Whether they are hoping to have a career in the sports industry or just wanted a first summer job, they all agree that their summer was fun and exciting. Here are a few of the interns who you may see during a game or they may be behind the scenes so you can enjoy a well ran baseball game.

Daisy Guinn is an 11th grade student from Canada. She is a second year intern who helps in various roles, including merchandise and ticket booth. “I love working with the Bogeys. it’s such a welcoming environment, and I have created so many new friendships,” said Daisy. “They have been very welcoming and create a safe environment for us,” said Daisy.

Max Pashley is an 11th grader who attends O’Neal school. Max does a little of everything for the Bogeys. “I like to give myself the Iceman title, I always get ice for people,” said Max. He is in his second year of internship “I play baseball so I like the atmosphere, it’s a great job to have,” said Max.

Anna Gepenbrock is an 11th grader at Pinecrest. She is in her first year of internship. She is normally keeping score in the booth or working at the ticket booth. “I love meeting new people and talking to them,” said Anna. Anna plays soccer and is considering a career in sports marketing.

Jenna Kawase is an 11th grader at Pinecrest and is in her second year of internship. Jenna works a lot of behind the scenes with team sponsors and scheduling interns. “I love the human interaction. The aspect of being here just interacting with people daily it’s so much fun. I started when I was 14 and couldn’t work yet, so I came here last year and I loved it,” said Jenna.

Brendan Phelps is a 10th grader at Pinecrest. He works with the scoreboard and in concessions. “The Bogey man recruited me, and I have become friends with people,” said Brendan.

Josh Narkotich is in his second year with the Bogeys and is a senior at Pinecrest. Josh is the PA announcer, setting up livestream, and played music. “I’ve always liked sports. I just wanted to get into the sports scene. I want to do sports journalism. I thought it was a great idea for me to get involved in the sports world and its local. It is a cool opportunity,” said Josh. Josh hopes to attend UNC or UNC Wilmington to study sports journalism.

Jordan Grant is an 11th grader at Pinecrest, where he plays basketball. He is in his second year of interning. He does a little of everything on game days. “I love the experience, and it’s giving me experience in the sports marketing world,” said Jordan.

Olivia Maxwell is a senior at O’Neal and is interning for her second year. “I started out volunteering and I fell in love with it, the fans and the kids. The kids I work with here just to get so happy. Making relationships with the fans is what it’s all about for me,” said Olivia. “When I first started this I wanted to be a doctor, but since working here that has all changed. I want to be a sports agent.” Olivia recently worked with the Savanah Bananas for a night. “The amount of hard work they put in is amazing,” said Olivia.

One thing that the interns have in common is that they all hope to return next summer. They all enjoy their work with the Bogeys and make sure the fans have a fun experience at games. Regular season has ended, but they have a little more work to do this week in the playoffs. During the off season, the plan to do charity work together for Habitat for Humanity.

Last year with the Bogeys Championship, the interns received championship rings. They are hoping to receive another ring next weekend.
