Central Carolina Christian Conference Tournament

Central Carolina Christian Conference Tournament recap

The Father Capodanno Grunts played host to their men’s and women’s conference tournaments on Saturday. The Grunts use the Moore Montessori School’s athletic facilities as their home. The tournament began at 9 a.m. and lasted until about 9 p.m. A pancake breakfast was served in the morning and pulled pork for lunch and dinner. You could even grab a cup of local Cactus Creek Coffee to help get through the long day.

Hundreds of highschool fans, students, players, and parents came and went throughout the day. The Grunts athletic director and the many volunteers hosted a great tournament with some great basketball games.

First up in the men’s first round was Star Christian Academy and Spirit of Life. This game stayed close until the fourth quarter. The two teams set the tone for a great day of basketball. Spirit ofLife moved on to the second round to take on top seed Falcon Christian Academy after winning 23-39.

The men took a break in the action while the Ladies of Spirit of Life took on Thomas Academy. Thomas Academy won what we were told was a close game. Thomas Academy would get a break while they waited to take on Father Capodanno Lady Grunts for the Women’s Conference Championship. First, the guys still had two more games to determine who was going to play for a title.

Round two first up was Spirit of Life and Falcon Christian Academy. Falcon came into the tournament undefeated in conference play. Their speed and size were too much for Spirit of Life to handle, with two players showing off dunking skills. Spirit of Life got into foul trouble, leaving only four men on the court against the Falcon team. Falcon head coach pleaded with refs to allow Spirit of Life to play a fouled out player, but he refused.

Falcon waited to see if they were going to play the Grunts or 2 seed LifeSpring Academy. The Grunts didn’t show any sign of being tired in their second game of the day. This game remained close until the second half, when Father Capodanno started to pull away in the third quarter. LifeSpring put a dent in the score, but the damage was done. After a 55-47 win, Father Capodanno found themselves going to the Championship later that night.
