Viking successful on first day of tournament

Union Pines Men’s Tennis finished the first round of the 3A Sandhills Conference Tournament on Tuesday afternoon with success.

The Vikings enter the tournament after finishing second in the conference behind Pinecrest. The Vikings ended as the top 3A team in the split conference.

Dominic Roett (Union Pines) defeated Nathan Jones (Lee County) 8-2

Eli McCrae (Scotland County) defeated Cam Deibel (Union Pines) 8-4

Ricky Zhang, SC won by default

Semi-final results:

Roett (Union Pines) defeated Benton (Lee County) 8-6

Zhang (Scotland County) defeated McCrae (Scotland County) 8-3

Finals will take place on Wednesday afternoon.
