Vikings Soccer Starts Season with Win
Vikings men’s soccer starts the season off with a win on the road over Hunt Monday.
The Vikings put in a great deal of work over the summer after missing the playoffs last season. They finished last season with an overall record of 4-16 and a 2-11 conference record.
“The team attended the UNCG High School team camp and hosted a College Coaches camp locally benefitting from both experiences,” said coach Blatz. “Campus-based workouts were well attended, with the young players gaining valuable exposure to the returning players and the commitment and work rate required to start competing at the high school level.”
The Vikings have 11 players returning to the team this season. The team has set the goal of reaching the state playoffs this season.
The team is being led by Kael John, who is a returning All-Region goalkeeper. “I anticipate big contributions from Courage Hicks and Cole Harkins and Logan Glaubitz will provide strong senior leadership on and off the field,” said Blatz.
Monday’s 1-0 win was the start the Vikings were hoping for. Putting last season in the rearview, the Vikings will travel to Northside - Jacksonville Friday afternoon. The game is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. they will stay on the road for a Saturday morning game against Jacksonville at 11 a.m.
The Vikings first home game will be August 23rd.
