Vikings Defense paved way for 2-0 start
Defense leads Vikings to second shutout
The Vikings were led by the defense Friday night in their home opener against Northwood. Due to the weather, the game was questionable to take place, but it was delayed until 8 p.m.
The Pinecrest game was postponed until Saturday morning at 10 a.m. and North Moore was postponed until Monday at 7 p.m. at Southwestern Randolph.
The Vikings who defeated Triton on the road last week in a 42-0 shutout win came home to Cameron ready to prove this is who they are. The defense was stopping anything the Charges threw at them. The fast defense had several hits on the Charges QB, multiple stops for a loss. When the Chargers tried to put the ball in the air, the secondary stepped up and said it was their turn.
Seven total Interceptions for the Vikings. Two were returned giving the Viking defense two touchdowns in the 35-0 win. The first four drives for the Chargers ended in an interception.
#8 Jonah Thiene had two interceptions, and one pick 6
#20 Damarie Johnson had two interceptions and ran one in for a pick 6.
#7 Josiah Sandlerhad one interception.
#1 Harley Moyer had two interceptions.
The first Charger drive with no interceptions wouldn’t happen until the third quarter.
“I think they learned some things that we worked on in practice this week,” said Coach Till. “I was really pleased with the brakes on the ball.”
Although the defence set up the offense for success, you can’t take away from the performance of Senior running back Jeremiah Carraway, who had two touchdowns on the ground.
““Jeremiah carried the ball really well. He did a great job staying inside the scheme. He had a great night, especially inside the tackles. The guys on the O-line had a great night,” said Till. “I’m not to happy about the penalties, that’s where my mind is at. I wish the offense would have got a little more payoff for their effort.”
The Vikings are home again Friday night against 0-1 Western Harnett. The kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
