Bryan Till named Vikings new coach

Till comes from a winning history and has the same expectations at Union Pines. Till was approved by the Moore county School Board at Tuesday’s meeting and was announced at a press conference at Union Pines Wednesday morning.

Principal Andy McCormick thanked everyone from Till’s family to school board members for being in attendance. “This is an exciting day for Union Pines High School and our football program and school as a whole,” said McCormick. “This is an important hire for us. We put a lot of effort and focus into this hire. One thing kept arising when I started checking in on this gentleman is that you're not only looking at a great football coach, but you are looking at a great man, and he is a leader of young men.”

Till, who already lives in Moore County with his family, has coached at Richmond Senior High School since 2017. He has a record of 55-23 at Richmond and took his team 13-1 and an appearance in the 4A West regional finals in 2019. Before Richmond he spent four seasons at Terry Sanford with a record of 34-18. At Terry Sanford, Till and his team won two 3A Conference titles and never missed the state playoffs. Till also has an overall record of 7-0 against the Union Pines Vikings.

Jason Trousdale and the Vikings parted ways after this past season came to an end. The Vikings missed the playoffs by two wins this season. Trousdale is now on the coaching staff at Scotland High School. The Vikings haven’t had much success since Lonnie Cox was leading the program.

“This was a huge decision for us as a family, and are extremely excited to be in Moore County Schools where we live, to give back and to be a part of the community and to help contribute. It means a lot to us, said Till. “I’m excited to get to work. Foundationally, we are going to build stronger, to learn what hard work is and what it’s going to take to be great in anything they do. If we do that successfully, then football will be successful.”

Till plans to build a belief system in the program from the community to the players. He spoke on the team, needing to believe that they can win, and the past is in the past. Strength and Conditioning will be a large part of the strategy to turn the program around. Till plans on this being his last coaching job, so building and being a part of the program, he is in it for the long haul.

Expectations are the same for Coach Till, Principal McCormick, and AD Chad Hill. “To make playoffs and to win playoff games,” said Till. McCormick is expecting big changes to the program, physical growth and playoff appearances. McCormick spoke about the success in athletics and what affects it has in the halls, classrooms, and the community.

The Viking team will meet coach Till for the first time tomorrow.
