Moore County Kick-off Classic — Union Pines

Moore County Kick-off Classic -- Union Pines

Union Pines Vikings played Anson County Friday night in the Moore County Kick-off Classic. They played two 12 minute quarters with no contact on special teams. The Vikings are coming off a 3-7 season. With only winning five games in two years, the Vikings look forward to this season to show more improvement.

The Vikings had some highs and lows, but overall held their own Friday night. The Vikings had a great drive to start the game until they get to the goal line where they threw an interception. They would bounce back and mellow out and it would end up being an exciting, evenly matched game.

Anson County put up 18 points and the Vikings would put up 12, but the score doesn’t show how well the offense played. “We did some really good things. We have a play maker in Ethan Biggs. He made some plays you don’t see too many times on Friday nights, but you have to take care of the football,” said coach Trousdale.

The defense needed this game to see where the adjustments need to be made before Friday’s home opener. “We played ok, I thought we would play a little better. It’s a little different on turf, that’s different for us. We need to get better, but there were some bright sports. The best part is everybody’s healthy,” said Trousdale.

Union Pines will open their season on Friday at home against Triton. MooreDailySports.com will be there giving you coverage.
