Vikings enter last stretch of the season with a big game tonight

The Vikings basketball teams are entering the last stretch of games tonight. 13 games are in the books and 11 left on schedule. Both Men’s and women’s teams are sitting in the 3rd-4th places in the conference. The two teams will host first place Richmond tonight. Richmonds Men’s and Women’s teams are sitting in first with a 3-0 record in the SAC.

The Vikings Men’s team are sitting with a 9-4 overall record and 1-1 in the conference sitting in 3rd place behind Richmond, and Scotland. The Vikings are 3-0 at home. They look to keep that record alive tonight hosting Richmond 9-5 (3-0). They succeed on the road also with a 5-2 record, but a 1-2 record on a neutral court. The Vikings offence has scored 903 points so far this season and the defense has allowed 671 points.

With 11 games to go in the regular season, Trent Hilburn, Zion Kiser, and Aiden Leonard have led the team. Hilburn has scored 193 points averaging 14.8 per game with 102 rebounds on the defensive side of the ball. Kiser has 37 assists and 33 steals, and Leonard is shooting 83% from the line.

Tonights match up against the Raiders will be the first of two meetings this season. Last season, the Raiders blew past the Vikings in both regular season meetings. Records show that the Vikings are not the same team as last season. A win tonight will move them up in the standings and show how serious this team is. Tonight will be a great game with a lot of meaning.

The Ladies Vikings on paper are similar to the guys. Sitting with a 7-6 overall record with a 1-1 conference record. The ladies are sitting in 4th place in the conference behind Richmond, Scotland, and Pinecrest. Union Pines are 2-1 at home, 3-5 on the road and 2-0 on neutral court.

The Lady Vikings have scored 559, their defense has allowed 521 points so far this season with 11 games left. The team has ben lead by Alley Hise, Taryn Pekala, Savannah McCaskill, and Carryn McCutchen. Hise is averaging 10.3 points per game with 123 points so far this season. Pekala has 45 assists and 55 steals averaging 4.6 per game. McCaskill is averaging 9.4 rebounds per game with 113 rebounds. McCutchen is shooting 68% from the free throw line.

The Vikings have one of their biggest tests this season when hosting the 9-4(3-0) Richmond Raiders. The Raiders have outscored their opponents by 168 points so far this season. Undefeated at home, the Raiders are 3-3 on the road.
