Viking wrestling continue to dominate

On Saturday, 12/2 Union Pines wrestling teams competed at two different events for the second week in a row. The boys’ varsity first team wrestled a dual event at Pinecrest HS. Following are the results:

UP 70 Apex Friendship 3

UP 71 Hoggard 6

UP 49 Topsail 19

UP 78 Freedom Christian 0

UP 64 Jack Britt 9

Ten different wrestlers won all their individual matches for the day: Nathan Maness, Aidan Enright, Joe Lloyd, Keaton Crawford, Logan Mitchell, Dominic Blue, Brock Sullivan, Nick Mascolino, Dantrell Williams, and Chayden Hardy

The Vikings are 11-0 on the season, and the Rankwrestlers.com #3 Dual team in the NCHSAA 3A classification, behind West teams Pisgah and West Rowan.

The girls’ team and the boys’ varsity second team wrestled at the Green Hope Grapple, at Green Hope HS in Cary. Lily Blair, won her girls 126 lb bracket with all falls and is undefeated on the season. Gabriella Bumgardner finished in second place at 120 lbs. Also scoring points for the team and helping them earn a 7th place team finish out of 9 teams was Abigail Pursley. The highest placement for the boys came from Tripp Sullivan with an outstanding tournament, finishing in third place at 157 lbs and winning five matches, four by fall. Next was Alex Soukup, winning three matches and finishing in 4th place at 126 lbs.

The UP wrestlers kick off conference competition on Wed., Dec 6, with boys and girls duals against Scotland County and Southern Lee.
