Vikings fall in 3A State Dual Championship

Union Pines made their third consecutive trip to the NCHSAA Dual Team Championship on Saturday in Greensboro to take on Eastern Guilford. The Vikings had an undefeated dual record heading into the 3A State Championship.

Eastern Guilford defeated the Vikings 36-21 ending the Vikings perfect dual season 31-1. At 132-pounds Viking Logan Mitchell won the only match for the Vikings on Saturday.

“I am grateful for all that we have and proud of what we have accomplished this season, but as a team we came up short of our goal, and that’s a big disappointment for every Viking wrestler and coach,” said Coach Gray. “The season is not over though, and we need to get focused on what lies in front of us and that’s regional titles, for the team and individually.”  

The Vikings will now see what they can do individually with several wrestlers looking to make a run at a State Championship.
