Vikings come from behind to defeat Scotland

The Union Pines Vikings snap six game losing streak in a thrilling fourth quarter win in Cameron on Friday night.

The Vikings hosted Scotland County, who came into Cameron 8-12 overall and 3-5 in conference play. They defeated the Vikings in January 58-52 in Laurinburg. The Vikings came in Friday on a six game losing streak which started with Scotland County.

In the last home game and senior night, Friday Scotland was leading 35-45, with six minutes remaining. The Vikings went on a run and with 45 seconds left, found themselves with a 55-50 lead. Trent Hillburn, who scored 16 points and led the Vikings in scoring iced the game with free throws late in the fourth to give the Vikings their second conference win 60-55.

Zion Kiser followed Hillburn with 13 points, Jaylen Kyle with 11 points, and Jackson Sales and Kingsley Donaldson both contributed 8 points.

“The UPHS basketball staff and team would like to congratulate the following seniors on their victory on senior night, as well as all the hard work and dedication they have given to this team. #2 Grey Booker, #3 Zion Kiser, #10 Jackson Sales, #21 Christian Hackett, and #22 Trent Hilburn,” said Coach Marks.  

The Vikings are now 10-9 overall and will travel to Richmond on Tuesday.




The Lad Vikings fell to Scotland 47-41who are now 10-9 overall and 4-5 in conference play. They will also travel to Richmond on Tuesday.
