Mustangs get 18th win to finish season
The Lady Mustangs finish the regular season 18-2 overall and 12-2 in the conference. They finished second in the conference behind the only team who defeated them this season.
The Mustangs hold the 8th rank in the 1A NC-East and the 140th rank in North Carolina.
The team is waiting for the conference tournament brackets that should be finalized this weekend. Conference tournament will begin next week.
Thursday’s home game was also senior night. The team honored Calissa Clendenin (11), Olivia Hussey (2), Kaitlyn Ritchie (3), and Nevaeh Ross (14).
The Mustangs hosted rivals Chatham Central. The Mustangs got off to an early 10-4 lead before Chatham Cental called their first timeout. After the timeout, the Mustangs dominated the rest of the set, winning 25-13.
Chatham started the second set more competitive. The Mustangs were up to 20 points when Chatham started to close in. Coach Leenheer called a timeout with a 20-15 Mustang lead. After the timeout, the Mustangs scored four points while Ella Fields was serving. The Mustangs took the second set 25-16.
The Mustangs won the third set 25-16.
