North Moore Senior Will Kennedy Signs with Wake Tech Community College.
Wednesday, several Moore County Athletes signed to further their athletic career. Mustang Senior Will Kennedy signed with Wake Tech Community College to play baseball next year. Will and the Mustangs finished 1A State Runners-up last season.
It’s always special for a coach to watch an athlete develop and grow as a player. It is rare and even more special when that player makes it to the next level. What makes Will’s story so special is he got to do it with his father and grandfather. Will’s dad is the head coach of the Mustangs, and his grandfather is also on the coaching staff.
To have a historical season with three generations on the same team and then sign to play at the next level is like a dream. “It’s the best of both worlds. It has been a privilege to coach Will at the High School Level,” said Coach Kennedy. Kennedy explained a lot of fathers get to coach their sons through the different levels of sports, but most are not fortunate to do it at the High School level. “Many had their hands in coaching Will throughout the years,” said Kennedy. “After so long, I can only teach him so much. I am excited for him to go learn and play for someone else.”

It can be difficult at times when a father is coaching their son, fathers tend to be harder on their sons, but it also creates a special bond. “To have the best season in school history with Will was special, and my dad on the staff, you can’t put a price tag on that,” said Kennedy.
“It can be tough at times. I felt that he was harder on me,” said Will. “I am excited and looking forward to going and playing baseball at Wake Tech. It is an awesome feeling.”
Although Will looks forward to the next chapter in his career, he will have to wait one more season. Coach Kennedy, Will, and the Mustangs will have one last season together starting in February.
