Week of Rivals

Teams are waiting for the brackets to the NCHSAA Tournaments to be finalized today.

Lastnight North Moore and Pinecrest took care of business to land them Conference titles.

The Patriots traveled a few miles to Union Pines for the classic battle of the pines. It was all Patriots. The Vikings made five trips to the red zone but only come up with 3 points. The Patriots won 60-3.

The win would complete their historic 10-0 regular season. The school has never had a perfect season. We will find out their ranking later today, but we do know they will be a higher seed and will get a few home games during the playoffs.

The Mustangs hosted cross river rivals Chatham Central. A third conference title was on the line, but the Mustangs went to work early. They scored on the opening drive in three plays; the defence forced a three and out. The offense scored in four plays on their second drive.

The Mustangs won 42-8 to grab another title. The Mustangs may not be as fortunate as the past two seasons for seedings. After back to back historical seasons the Mustangs struggled to define themselves at the beginning of the season. Once the two early season losses got out of the way, the Mustangs went on a long winning streak.

It seemed as the deck was against the Mustangs, two teams were added to their conference expanding conference play, and then they spent a month straight on the road. One thing about the Mustangs is they will fight through anything, and they did. We expect a mid-seed, with one, maybe two home games.

In the world of 8 man football, Father Capodanno traveled across town to take on conference rivals Sandhills Classical Christian School.

The Grunts were coming off their home win with a lot of momentum. 8-man football is normally high scoring and one sided. The game would be a battle to close out their seasons. The Grunts came away with the win 23-20.
