Patriots soccer upset, Mustangs move on
21st ranked Heritage upset 5th ranked Pinecrest in double overtime on Thursday night. Heritage has upset both teams in both rounds of the NCHSAA 4A playoffs.
The game went scoreless during regulation, Pinecrest and Heritage scored one goal each in the first overtime. That was not the case in the second overtime. Heritage scored the winning goal. The loss ends the Patriots season at 18-5-1, the Patriots also won a conference title this season in their conference sweep.
The North Moore Mustangs moves on to round three of the NCHSAA 1A playoffs after their second round win on Thursday. The 3rd ranked Mustangs defeated 19th ranked Vance Charter 4-1 to advance to the Sweet 16 round.
Christopher “Guero” Betancourt scored a penalty kick in the first half after his brother Ricky was fouled inside the box. Ricky Betancourt, Eric Flores and Eduardo Flores all scored one goal each in the second half in the 4-1 win.
The Mustangs will host 11 ranked Southside who has a record of 18-6. Southside upset their 6th ranked opponent Lejeune on Thursday. North Moore and Southside will play Monday at 6 p.m.
The winner will advance to the Elite 8 against 7th ranked East Wake Academy and 2nd ranked River Mill. This could be the Mustangs last home playoff game.
