Vikings sweep Western Harnett
The Vikings defeated Western Harnett for the second time on Wednesday. The Vikings won at home a week ago 4-1 against Western Harnett. Last night, they traveled to Harnett county and won 8-6, making two of their three wins this season against Western Harnett.
Despite the Eagles having four errors, the Vikings only scored one run off an error. The Vikings were able to earn eight hits in the win. The Eagles got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning, but the Vikings answered back with three runs in the second. Austin Mooring started things by making contact with the first pitch for a line drive single to left field. During Chandler Ring’s at bat Mooring stole second, Ring laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Mooring to third. Jaxon West replaced Jacob Williams as a runner after he hit an RBI single to right field. Brodie Lyczkowaki moves the runner after reaching on an error, with two outs Grey Booker hit a line drive to right field for a 2 RBI double.
The Eagles tied the game, scoring four runs in the bottom of the third, but the Vikings would score two more in the fifth and the seventh. The Eagles tried to get something going in the bottom of the seventh, but only brought in one run.
The Vikings went 8 for 37 as a team earning seven RBIs, six walks, and were sat down eight times. Leading the way for the Vinkin’s was Lewis, who went 2 for 4 and scored twice, Mooring went 1 for 2, walked twice and scored two runs. Ring went 1 for 1 with two RBIs and two walks.
On the mound for the Vikings was Joey Ring. He pitched two innings and gave up three hits and five runs, walked four and struck out one. Lewis, with the win, pitched just over three innings, giving up two hits and one run, five walks, but struck out four. Chandler Ring pitched one inning, gave up one hit and struck out three batters.
The Vikings are scheduled to host Scotland on Friday night.
